A popular and preeminent VoIP communication client, Skype has been steadily adding the features it had stripped out of a major 4.0 update--like call transferring, Skype Access for Wi-Fi hotspots, accessibility provisions, birthday alerts, and the ability to send a contact to other Skype users. Version 4.2 also claims back-end tweaks to ready the popular VoIP app for high-definition video calls, in conjunction with the user's HD Webcam.

Public chats are still absent in version 4.2; IM still isn't terribly interactive; and the Skypecast party line throwback has gotten the kibosh. Anyone who doesn't like the larger block of interface that consolidates the classic two-pane look into a single window can also split them in two.

In addition to placing audio and video calls to other Skype users, mobile phones, and landlines, Skype is also experimenting with screen sharing. Screen sharing initiates a video call, and uses that technology to broadcast a recording of your screen--either a portion or the full screen--to one other viewer. Screen sharing has some limitations: you can't simultaneously see a video of your buddy and their desktop, and since only one viewer at a time can peep your screen, you can't use it as a free replacement for collaborative Web conferencing. It doesn't help that the picture quality is still choppy and fuzzy, in both partial-screen and full-screen view modes. Make no mistake, though: it's a great feature that we're happy to see added, but we'll be even happier to watch it improve.

Another aspect you should pay attention during installation is on Ask Toolbar. Although the installation is mandatory, but there is an option to change the default search engine and the browser home page. Just leave these fields unselected.

Great news for Opera fans, a new version (10.60) has been released with a completely new JavaScript framework and the promise of the new Opera is eight times higher speed. The source code has been completely revised to eliminate residues from previous versions and fix bugs.

uTorrent bundles a ton of advanced features into a compact and clean interface that does not require much technical expertise to master. It can be associated with .torrent files and automatically take over whenever you open a torrent. Other features include skin support, file management, proxy support, UPnP port mapping and more. Standalone, no install required.

Installing the software is as simple as counting to one. A single-step setup allows you to create a desktop icon and a Start menu entry for the program. Once you start it, the software checks for updates and if there are any, it asks you to update. Next, you should configure the applications Internet settings. Probably you wont need to change anything, due to the fact that the software supports UPnP port mapping. Another thing that I usually do when I install the software is associate it with the .torrent filetype. You can do the association anytime from the Preferences dialog, by selecting "General".
A outstanding thing about uTorrent is the fact that it allows you to schedule when you want to download files. This feature also enables you to adjust the bandwidth depending on the time of day. Several advanced options are provided through the Preferences dialog. Resources are available online for learning how to configure these settings. However, I didnt find it necessary to tweak any of them, because uTorrent works outstanding on my computer.
Pluses: You can use the "Speed Guide" feature to find out whether your connection settings are properly configured and to find out your connection speed. uTorrent also supports downloading and sorting RSS Feeds from websites that offer torrent downloads.
Drawbacks / flaws:
In conclusion: uTorrent is my favorite BitTorrent client.
